Introduction
PRDX3ispartoftheperoxiredoxinfamilyofantioxidantenzymes,thatreduceshydrogenperoxideandalkylhydroperoxides.PRDX3isparticularlylocatedinthemitochondriaandinvolvedintheregulationofcellularredoxstatusbyservingasaprimarylineofdefenseagainstH2O2producedduringrespiration.PRDX3isasignificantregulatoroftheabundanceofmitochondrialH(2)O(2),whichitselfpromotesapoptosisincooperationwithothermediatorsofapoptoticsignaling.PRDX3mitochondrialproteinissignificantlydecreasedinAlzheimerDiseaseandDownSyndrome.
