Introduction
Glycogenin-1(GYG1)isanenzymeinvolvedinglycogenbiosynthesis.GYG1isthechiefenzymeinvolvedinglycogenpolymerisation.Glycogenin-1isvitalforthefunctionofself-glucosylates,usinganinter-subunitmechanism,toformanoligosaccharideprimerwhichactsassubstrateforglycogensynthase.Inaddition,GYG1hasaroleinregulatingglycogenmetabolismandtheachievementofmaximalglycogenlevelsinskeletalmuscle.GYG1mRNAandproteincontentandactivityincreaseinthemuscleduringrecoveryfromprolongedandexhaustiveexercise.GYG1isinactivatedwithglycogencatabolismwhichconcurswithanincreaseinglycogeningeneexpressionasexerciseandglycogenolysisadvance.Glycogeninwillremaincovalentlyattachedtothereducingendoftheglycogenmolecule.
