Introduction

Uteroglobin(SCGB1A1)whichbelongstotheSecretoglobin(SCGBs)superfamily,isamultifunctionalproteinthatexertsanti-inflammatoryandanti-tumOrigeniceffectsbybindingsmallhydrophobicmoleculessuchasphospholipidsandprostaglandins.Uteroglobinisinvolvedinnumerousfunctionsincludinganti-inflammation,inhibitionofphospholipaseA2andthesequesteringofhydrophobicligands.SCGB1A1isexpressedbyClaracells,thenon-ciliated,non-mucoussecretorycellspredominantinlungbronchioles,andbyotherepitheliawhichcommunicatewiththeexternalenvironment.Ontopofsequesteringpro-inflammatorymediatorsandcarcinogens,Uteroglobinisimplicatedintheinhibitionofcellmigrationandinvasion,plateletaggregation,andTcelldifferentiation.SCGB1A1genedefectsareassociatedwithasusceptibilitytoasthma.
